Shannon Sharpe reacts to Kobe Bryant’s Oscar win for ‘Dear Basketball’
March 5, 2018 - Basketballs
– Are we shopping that a Oscar means some-more to Kobe than a titles?
SHANNON SHARPE: we positively do. Because as we mentioned, final week during a Icon Man Award, we had an event to speak to Kobe Bryant. And a lot of what he pronounced there, he was articulate to me when he and we was talking. And we don’t routinely hold conversations, though given he emitted it.
SKIP BAYLESS: You hold lots of conversations.
SHANNON SHARPE: we don’t like to do that, Skip.
SKIP BAYLESS: Every other day, we dump another conversation. But go ahead.
SHANNON SHARPE: But articulate to Kobe, and he pronounced that. He said, man– and we pronounced well, we know, do we skip it. He pronounced ruin no. He said, as an contestant we know this. He said, when we persevere your each life, your each waking impulse to being a best during something, and we leave no mill unturned, you’re means to travel divided and feel good with what we were means to accomplish.
He said, we suspicion we could get zero else out of my career. That was it. He says, though now, in this, he says, I’m equally if not some-more encouraged to do this, and be good during this, as we was basketball. You see, Skip, as he said, he dreamt of winning a championship, in a behind yard.
How many times did he say, five, four, three, two, travel off, diversion winner, NBA diversion seven, NBA finals. How many times did he mount in front of a counterpart and review an acceptance debate about winning an Oscar? Not once. So this is a ultimate.
Because we all– listen, discordant to what people say, Jenny, we know this to be true. We all wish validation. No matter what we do, we wish validation. You play a sold sport, a ultimate validation we could get it go is going to a Hall of Fame. If we write, be winning a Pulitzer Prize or Nobel Prize is your validation. When we do this– and there’s a lot of people that have finished this a lot longer than Kobe Bryant, though they haven’t perceived a ultimate validation, that is winning that statue.
Skip, this is unbelievable. And it goes to uncover you, athletes are most some-more than what they seem to be. He’s most some-more than dribbling. He’s most some-more than shooting. So for him, he didn’t close up. So now, what we’re starting to see, athletes– since for a longest time, we’ve debunked this theory– reticent jock. We’ve debunked that.
So now what we’re starting to see is that we’re starting to see athletes do other things. And he said, he said, man, they’re about to– man, Kobe, you’re going to be depressed, and he’s like– we know, he pronounced mixed things, than what I’ve spotless adult on air, Skip. He’s said, no, it’s not going to occur to me.
You can see a passion and desire, and only articulate to him, we know because he was successful in his sport. And we know because only articulate to him because he’ll be successful in this. Is unbelievable. It’s unbelievable, a basketball player, a former basketball player, won an Oscar. He won an Oscar. Top that.
I know somebody who didn’t win one. we know somebody who didn’t win one, and we know somebody who hasn’t won one yet. Yea.
SKIP BAYLESS: Who?
SHANNON SHARPE: we ain’t going to contend nothing. we don’t call no names. This is Kobe’s show. This is Kobe’s segment. Kobe, we do your thing. Kobe, my dog.
SKIP BAYLESS: we unequivocally don’t know who you’re articulate about.
SHANNON SHARPE: You know who I’m articulate about.
SKIP BAYLESS: we don’t.
SHANNON SHARPE: Who hasn’t won an Oscar in a NBA, who played NBA basketball?
SKIP BAYLESS: Oh, Michael Jeffrey.
SHANNON SHARPE: Yes.
SKIP BAYLESS: The genuine 23.
SHANNON SHARPE: And who’s going to win an Oscar for a directing, or writing, or producing?
SKIP BAYLESS: When did Michael Jordan ever set out to win an Oscar?
SHANNON SHARPE: I’m only revelation we what’s going to happen.
SKIP BAYLESS: So that means Kobe’s improved than Michael? Is that what’s out there? Is that what you’re tyring to angle toward?
SHANNON SHARPE: Dear basketball– I’m going to write me one with dear football. I’m going to win me an Oscar.
– You do that.
SKIP BAYLESS: You know what? Knowing you, you’re going to lay down and try it today. Dear football, we skip we dearly.
SHANNON SHARPE: No, I’m going to write, dear operative with Skip Bayless. That’ what I’m going to do. That’s what I’m going to win with.
SKIP BAYLESS: That competence win we something.
– That’s an Oscar winner.
